In the first year of the master’s degree in "Communication design and Publishing" (ISIA U, Italy), we were asked to critically interpret the novel Mafarka the Futurist by author F. T. Marinetti. With a iconoclastic desire to "destroy" the book, I structured a project divided into two books designed to communicate my idea through different languages. The first book (book A) interprets the text of the novel with abstract paintings illustrated by Nilo Australi, conceiving the images as a universal language dealing with war.
In the second book (book B), the text was replaced by an alphabet of pictograms drawn according to the forms of the abstract paintings of book A, with the intention of destroying the words of the novel. In addition, archival images of international war scenarios were used to illustrate the novel as evidence of its contemporaneity.
